Call for Papers: FormaliSE 2013

CALL FOR PAPERs: FormaliSE 2013

FME Workshop on Formal Methods in Software Engineering
held in conjunction with ICSE 2013
Saturday 25 May 2013, San Francisco, USA
http://www.formalise.org/

Papers due: February 7, 2013

INTRODUCTION

The software industry has a long-standing and well-earned reputation for failing to deliver on its promises and it is clear that still nowadays, the success of software projects with the current technologies cannot be assured. For large complex projects ad hoc approaches have proven inadequate to assure the correct behavior of the delivered software. The lack of formalization in key places makes software engineering overly sensitive to the weaknesses that are inevitable in the complex activities behind software creation. Aids to precision in each phase of software development and crosschecking are essential, and this is precisely one the objectives of formal methods.

FormSera Workshop at ICSE 2012

FormSERA (Formal Methods in Software Engineering: Rigorous and Agile Approaches) is a workshop that was organized under the umbrella of ICSE 2012 (International Conference on Software Engineering), the major yearly event in the field of software engineering. The workshop focussed on bridging the gap between the mainstream software engineering community and the formal methods community.

An invited lecture was given by Professor Michael Jackson (The Open University and University of Newcastle) , titled: “Formalisms and Structures”. His talk was sponsored by FME, and was perceived by the attendees as very inspiring. The main program consisted of eight scientific paper presentations, which had been thoroughly reviewed by an international program committee (50% acceptance rate). A “round table” discussion concluded the workshop.
