 FMEInfRes

The objective of the FMEInfRes (Formal Methods Europe Information Resources) project is to allay the apprehensions of organisations considering using formal methods, possibly for the first time, and to provide them with information based on experience to date which they will find useful in making their own decisions and formulating management strategies for incorporating formal methods into their own software development processes. The result will enable organisations to be better informed when setting out to inject a formal method into their development process, with consequent better chances of success and less effort spent re-learning lessons which have been learned elsewhere.

Subject Matter ::

The subject matter to be disseminated consists of databases, a bibliography, an electronic file of "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs), paper reports and a newsletter relating to formal methods of software development. Access to the databases, the bibliography and the FAQs will be via ftp from an increasing number of sites and via the World Wide Web. The paper reports will make those same items available to those without the necessary electronic facilities.

Target Audience ::

The target audience are European industrial software developers, especially those who wish to explore the use of formal methods in order to improve the functional correctness of their developments, but who are unsure or unaware of the technical choices, the available methods and tools and previous experiences of other applications and other information. Typical members of this target audience are industrial developers of software used in safety critical and safety related systems.

Mechanisms ::

The four databases will be freely disseminated through ftp and world-wide-web pages from several European sites. Awareness and information about the databases and how to access them will be communicated via electronic mail lists, electronic news-groups, a quarterly newsletter and six-monthly paper reports. A mailing list of 350 names for the newsletter is already available.
